Midterm Progress Report

My neglect has left this place looking a little forlorn, but progress with Vulture continues apace, and more or less according to schedule. Now that we’re half-way through SoC, I thought I should remark on how things are going. Here are some screenshots to begin with:

The bare-bones functionality for chats and IMs has been implemented. The buddy list responds to people coming and going, and the status can be set from the status box.

As the screenshot of the conversation window shows, no attempt is made to render the formatting of messages: the HTML is dumped straight into a RichEdit control. This is a feature I specifically excluded from the scope of the summer project in my original application. Instead, I intend to focus on the buddy list, aiming to have it complete or nearly so by the time SoC ends in August. As a prelude to this, I have recently begun work on support for buddy icons.

I hope that I’ll get around to posting again before the end of the summer. I have some half-formed thoughts on modal loops that I’d like to commit to whatever the blogging equivalent of paper is.

Sorry for my impatience but are you (or other developers) currently polishing this application and is there any chance to get an early binary release of vulture? I am really looking forward to a release!

Thanks for your interest. Since term’s started again I’m rather busy at the moment, so it might be some time before an alpha is ready (maybe December?). I’m not too far from having something presentable, though. In the meantime, if you’re willing to set up your own build environment, the source is in the Monotone repository at mtn.vulture.im.

    Any updates on this?

I haven’t made any progress worth mentioning since my last comment, but what I said there still stands: I would like to pick it up again at the end of term.

Any updates on this since last time?

Thanks for your interest. I’ve done a little work locally, but have been busier this academic year than I expected. Come the summer, though, I would hope to be able to pick it up again.

I’m curious if this worked out for you? A progress update would be great if there is one.

No more yet, I’m afraid, although I haven’t given up hope of finding time to pick it up again. I’ll post when I have something more to report.

I am new to monotone so for anyone interested:

I have downloaded the latest version of monotone and guitone (a frontend to monotone). I am used to use tortoiseSVN so I was very confused by the pure console version of monotone. Then I have created a new database and pulled data from mtn.vulture.im with pattern im.vulture.* (Gregor, maybe you can confirm this is the correct pattern please).
So this should get you started when you are interested in this project. I do already plan to enhance the contact list interface with layered, skinnable functionality.

Unfortunately guitone crashes when you try to check out from the created database. So please stay tuned until I found a way around it.
